Lucelle was the daughter of a WWI vet who died of complications from his combat wounds. She also had a brother killed in action in WWII. Having lived in Scotland since her mother moved there nearly 15 years prior, she enlisted in London, England, and took on work with the RCAF as a clerk administrator.

In May 1945, she complained of fatigue, cough and weight loss; when she was hospitalized in June, her weight had fallen to 90 pounds. She was transported to Canada on a hospital ship, and discharged on medical grounds that September. Her mother returned from Scotland and cared for her until her death from pulmonary tuberculosis the following summer.
