June Catherine Nurse was born in Vegreville, Alberta to English immigrant parents. The family returned to England when she was 13. Prior to her enlistment with the RCAF in 1943, she had been a Hollerith operator at Royal Ordinances Factor for three years. On her application, she listed her future plans as to become a housewife, with the second and third options marked “n/a.”

In June of 1944, LAW Nurse was confined to barracks after failing to phone in following an air raid. She was admitted to hospital with symptoms of pneumonia twice in 1944-45. In January 1945, she married fellow Canadian LAC David Lloyd Davies. Not long after, she was sent to Canada on a hospital ship due to a diagnosis of tuberculosis. Discharged on medical grounds in March of 1945, she died of influenza in August of that year.
